Veterans Program

Our Veterans Program provides a supportive and welcoming space where veterans can experience the healing and restorative benefits of working with horses. Through equine-assisted activities, participants have opportunities to strengthen confidence, build connections, reduce stress, and develop resilience in a peaceful and encouraging environment.

The program focuses on reducing stress and isolation, strengthening communication and coping skills, promoting emotional wellness, and fostering a renewed sense of purpose and community, nonjudgemental connection that can help veterans reconnect with themselves and others in a meaningful way. Activities may include groundwork with horses, grooming, team-building exercises, and other equine -assisted experiences tailored to the needs of the participants.

No horse experience is necessary, and all veterans are welcome!

Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust

Oscar J. Tolmas was a lifelong resident of New Orleans, a Veteran of WWII, and an attorney and real estate developer. Horse racing was a passion of Tolmas. In his last will and testament, he formed the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust to help charitable organizations fulfill their missions. His legacy and generosity will live on in the hearts of many.

New Heights gratefully acknowledges the enormous support of the Oscar J. Tolmas Foundation whose continued support has propelled our mission and enabled so many Veterans, adults, and children with cognitive, physical, and emotional challenges to experience the healing power of the horse.

Oscar’s Legacy

Mr. Tolmas was dedicated to giving back to his community. In his last will and testament he formed the Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust to help other charitable organizations with their missions. He left all of his estate to the trust.
