Our Services

New Heights is proud to offer services and programs designed to provide life changing therapy to meet the specific needs of each rider. The programs we offer are Hippotherapy and Adaptive Riding Therapy. We also have an amazing Veterans Program thanks to Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust.

  • Adaptive Riding riding focuses on teaching students the skills of riding while also working towards holistic goals such as improved mood, self-discipline, improved self-esteem, patience, and improved focus.

This type of therapeutic riding works by strengthening muscles, improving posture and fine motor skills, increasing memory, comprehension and concentration by challenging cognition and communication skills, and has other benefits.

Therapists and equines are trained to work with a variety of special needs including but not limited to developmental delays, ADD/ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impaired, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and more.

  • Hippotherapy is a customized treatment approach conducted by a licensed physical or occupational therapist. Therapists use the horse, its' movement, and warmth as a tool in therapy sessions. Therapists address clients' goals as they would in a hospital, rehabilitation center, or outpatient center.

Benefits from this therapy can include but are not limited to improving posture and fine motor skills, encouraging and promoting social interaction between riders and instructors, increasing stamina and increasing memory, comprehension and concentration by challenging cognition and communication skills.

Therapists and equines are trained to work with a variety of special needs including but not limited to muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, severe depression and anxiety, autism, down syndrome, and more.

  • This program is provided to veterans free of charge thanks to generous donations from supporters. Our ten week-long program is designed to meet rider's personal goals and to help them reach their full potential.

By week 10, veterans form impactful bonds with "their" horses and volunteer mentors. Many of our veteran alumni have returned to New Heights as volunteers in this program, a real testament to its success.

The Veterans program is through the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. To learn more about the program and how to locate and contact your local veterans affairs office on becoming a rider, click below.
