About New Heights Therapy Center
New Heights Therapy Center was incorporated in July of 1998 in St. Tammany Parish, in the state of Louisiana. The center is designated as a 501 (c)(3) tax exempted organization by the Internal Revenue Service and is a member center of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA). A Board of Directors has the responsibility of establishing and overseeing adherence to policies and practices governing the operations of the center. The board consists of local community, business and civic leaders who share their expertise in the operation of a business as well as the special aspects of operating the center. They are responsible for strategic planning, establishing an annual budget, overseeing the use of all funds available to the center, and for helping to attract supporters and friends of New Heights Therapy Center.
All riders have a doctor's recommendation and evaluations are made by a physical therapist for physical disabilities. Scholarships are available to riders who otherwise would not be able to attend therapeutic riding. A committee reviews applications and approves the scholarships.
Our horses are carefully screened and evaluated for the various levels of physical impact that the therapy provides. Conformation and gait combine to offer the unique and powerful therapeutic value to the rider. But disposition is critical as well. The horse must be able to tolerate unusual movements and sounds as well as the distraction of the "sidewalkers". And they must welcome the boundless love they are shown by their riders.
