The Riding Sessions »
Therapeutic riding is provided in year-round lessons and in summer camp by Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors. Hippotherapy is provided by an Occupational Therapist, who is registered to provide Hippotherapy. Students are teamed with instructors, horses and volunteers in riding sessions designed to challenge and inspire the rider and to facilitate improved capability. Our instructors are certified through NARHA. Based on input from doctors, therapists, instructors and parents, the rider's individual goals are designed to compliment on-going therapy and education. The instructor is assisted throughout the lesson by volunteers. Safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the lesson.
At New Heights the emphasis is on the whole person. All parts of the lesson reinforce the physical, cognitive and emotional health: grooming and tacking the horse, leading the horse and working with volunteers in the lesson. In the arena, riders perform exercises: riding patterns and other activites designed to achieve each one's individual plan.
Most lessons are one hour, where indicated, some lessons may be 1/2 hour while the rider gains strength and confidence.
