Impact of Therapeutic Riding »

Skills and capabilities gained in therapeutic riding can be applied in many areas of the lives of students.  Each time the student has a success in riding, he or she learns to deal better with other problems.  Many parents report improvement in school work and improved relationships with siblings and friends.

Therapeutic riding...

  • Strengthens Muscles
  • Improves Posture
  • Reinforces standards of behavior
  • Teaches problem solving
  • Teaches the use of patience
  • Enhances decision making
  • Promotes responsibility & cooperation
  • Improves focus on tasks
  • Builds self confidence

The horse and human bond has been known since antiquity for its healing qualities.  With a horse's non-judgmental approach, quiet trust and sense of play, students become highly motivated to achieve new heights in their physical, emotional and cognitive abilities and skills.

  • Children who seldom smile...laugh out loud.
  • Children who don't talk...communicate with their horses.
  • Children who are anti-social...bond with the volunteers.
  • Children who are bored with conventional therapy...can't wait to work hard.

"When a child with disabilities rides, they feel powerful, in control and peaceful.  This radiates into every area of life."

Patricia Schoen, parent of New Heights' rider
